For Mama

This video is the result of a creative idea hatched by bride Casey Wilson as a surprise gift for her mom. Casey contacted me last winter after seeing my Surviving Siblings personal documentary project. She hired me to do a documentary wedding video and asked if I’d be willing to also do a short family documentary video about her relationship with her mom, a stage-four breast cancer survivor who also happens to be her best friend. The deal was we’d keep it a secret for months and then Casey would give the final video to her mom the day before her wedding. We had to be pretty crafty about the whole thing, sneaking away home videos and convincing Casey’s parents that the early shoots I did were all part of her wedding video, but I think we’d both agree it was worth it.

I don’t think I can ever thank Casey enough for trusting me with this story, and for giving me such creative freedom to capture the beautiful relationship she has with her mom.

Cristina and Hal

The lovely Cristina and her dapper fiance, Hal, joined me in the UNC arboretum and in and around Chapel Hill and Carrboro for some engagement photo fun. What a lovely way to spend a North Carolina fall evening. I’m so excited for you too!

Jocelyn and Rob

Jocelyn and Rob are doing construction on the Raleigh home they’ll soon share together. They thought it would be a great place for an engagement photo shoot to mark this important time in their lives. I think so too! I love adding bits of the couple’s story into an engagement shoot. Thanks for the sweet idea guys.

Brianna and Alex

I’m excited to finally post Bri and Alex’s documentary wedding video. It’s always great to be back in Richmond, Va., (my old stomping ground) and Bri, Alex and their families and friends made it well worth the trip. Bri was about as laid back a bride as you can imagine, and her dress was flat out stunning. The Country Club of Virginia puts on a pretty beautiful event. And did I mention there was a caricature artist? Definitely a crowd favorite.

Thank you guys for letting me be a fly on the wall on your big day and for trusting me to capture the story of your wedding.

Emily and Chris

I took a quick trip from Chapel Hill up to Williamsburg, Va., and had the chance to do an engagement photo shoot for Emily and Chris who are indeed one of my favorite William and Mary couples. They’re also some of my favorite people in general, truth be told. Emily and Chris are planning a super fun country wedding in Charlottesville, Va, at Panorama Farm next spring. A Charlottesville girl myself, you can bet I’m looking forward to their big day.
